Why should the kids get to have all of the scavenger hunt fun?
That’s what I asked myself after organizing a pirate treasure hunt for my grandchildren a few weeks ago. I went all out—scrolls, clues, a backyard “X marks the spot.” I thought they’d dig up the prize in minutes.
Well, let’s just say… discovery isn’t their strong suit. They were on the spot—literally standing on it, pointing at the blade of grass beside it, debating where to dig. Turns out, they’re better pirates when it comes to pillaging snacks from the pantry than locating buried treasure.
But oh, the laughter when they finally unearthed the gold coins buried beneath the X.
Dirt flying, cheers erupted, and we celebrated with shaved ice soon after. It was chaotic, hilarious, and 100% worth it.

That whole adventure-filled week got me thinking… why not plan a scavenger hunt for the rest of us?

And so... I'd like to introduce the First Annual Summer Gallery Scavenger Hunt!
How it Works
Now through August 20th, Padre Island Art Gallery is hosting some summer gallery fun—a playful, art-filled treasure hunt for all ages. Each week, I’ll be sharing a clue in my column in the Island Moon Newspaper and here on my blog—something that leads you to an unexpected treasure or curious creation.
The first person to solve the clue and provide the correct answer will win that week’s prize plus two tickets for the Grand Prize Drawing during our Wine Down Wednesday finale on August 20th.
Others who solve the clue correctly will also receive one ticket for the grand prize drawing—so don’t worry if you’re not first to the finish line.
Bonus entry tickets can be earned with every gallery purchase over $25.
The Grand Prize: Art, Wine & After-Hours Wonder
The winner of our grand prize will receive a $100 gallery gift certificate tucked inside a beautifully curated Gallery Experience Basket—complete with one of my go-to favorite wines (perfect for a quiet evening after a long day, or to open with friends and good conversation).

Somewhere inside Padre Island Art Gallery, there’s something fishy going on. Look for a piece that’s hooked on art—and tell us the name of the artist who created it. (Hint: If you’ve spent any time by the jetty, this scene might feel like a salty slice of home.)
Visit the gallery, be the first to solve the clue in person, and you’ll win this week’s prize—plus two entries for the grand finale.
