This little hat has been around for 26 years.
It belonged to my youngest daughter—and this Easter, Claire Elizabeth wore it just as it was, paired with the same Easter dress her aunt had worn all those years ago.
I loved seeing her in it. It brought back beautiful memories of my daughter wearing it with such pride.
And then today, we sat down together at the hat bar at Evoke—and made it her own.
I removed the old ribbon and pastel flowers and replaced them with something fresh and more neutral. Added a few layers—silk, leather, lace, and a couple of small charms.
She picked out a tiny bow pin—with no hesitation. That was the one. She loves bows, so it suited her perfectly.
And a genuine pearl… because, like her grandmother, she is a pearl girl.
Watching her in that moment—choosing, deciding, making it hers—it wasn’t just about a hat anymore. It was about identity, expression, and the beginning of her own story layered onto something that already held so much meaning.
That’s what I love most about heirlooms. They carry stories forward. They gather new memories without letting go of the old ones.
What once belonged to her aunt… now belongs to her.
Old hat, new memories.
Such a special moment shared with my little granddaughter today. 💗✨
