About the Recipe
This recipe is an old family favorite that has not changed much— you just can’t improve on perfection! Satisfying, healthy, and packed with flavor, these cabbage rolls are the ultimate comfort food. Tender cabbage leaves wrap around a savory, seasoned meat and rice filling, then simmer in rich tomatoes until perfectly cooked.
I served this at an event at my art gallery, and it was a huge hit—so many people asked for the recipe! It’s a dish that never disappoints.

Ingredients
1 medium head of cabbage
1 egg
1 lb ground beef
2 tsp Kosher salt
1/2 c rice - whole (not instant)
1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 1/2 tbs minced onion
1 can tomato sauce
2 cans whole tomatoes
Parmesan cheese - I use fresh grated parmesan cheese
red pepper flakes - optional
Preparation
Combine egg, hamburger, salt, rice, pepper, onion, & tomato sauce into bowl. Roll into balls - set aside.
Place whole head of cabbage in small amount of water (up to 1/2 way up on cabbage or little more) and cover. Simmer for 5 min. Drain.
Place ball of meat mixture into center of separated cabbage leaves. Fold ends and roll up.
Pour tomatoes into large pot. Place rolls in pot - seam side down on top of tomatoes. Sprinkle generously with parmesan cheese.
Bring to boil. Lower heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Serve in bowls and top with red pepper flakes (optional) for an extra kick. Absolutely delicious!
